Robert S. Warshawsky, MD

Dr. WarshawskyRobert S. Warshawsky, MD, an ophthalmologist and a partner at Eye Care Associates for more than 25 years, is well known in the community. He does comprehensive ophthalmology, including cataracts, glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology, corneal transplants, and refractive surgery.

Dr. Warshawsky has been performing corneal surgery since 1975; he is trained and certified in both LASIK and photo refractive keratectomy (PRK) to correct refractive errors. His surgeries are performed at the Phillips Eye Institute.

Dr. Warshawsky was active in establishing the Phillips Eye Institute, originally part of Mount Sinai Hospital and now a specialty eye care hospital in the Allina Health Care System. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Minnesota Ophthalmology Society, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

A native of Michigan, he graduated cum laude from the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor; he received his MD degree from their School of Medicine where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society. Dr. Warshawsky served an internship at the Los Angeles County General Hospital, followed by an ophthalmology residency at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.

Neal A. Sher, MD, FACS

Dr. SherDr. Neal Sher has over 30 years of experience as a board certified ophthalmologist and has been named as a Top Doctor by Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine numerous times.

A partner in Eye Care Associates, he was a founding member of the Phillips Eye Institute where he served as one of its first chairs of the Department of Ophthalmology and is currently an attending surgeon. Dr. Sher specializes in refractive surgery and has devoted considerable time to studying and working in the field.

Notably, over the past seven years, Dr. Sher has performed at no charge, over 650 Laser Vision Correction surgeries for U.S. armed forces personnel who were being deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. He has been honored by the US Military and National Guard for his work.

In 1994, Dr. Sher was the first American to be awarded the prestigious Troutman Award by the International Society for Refractive Surgery for his work on the control of pain after PRK and has been elected to its Board of Directors. He has served as a member of the Preferred Practice Patterns Panel of the American Academy of Ophthalmology for Refractive Errors and Refractive Surgery. He has authored numerous scientific articles, chapters and edited two textbooks on refractive surgery and related fields.

A native of New York, Dr. Sher received his BA. and MD degrees with honors from Boston University at the age of 22. He has remained active in teaching other doctors and students at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He currently holds the rank of Adjunct Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology.

Marian Rubenfeld, MD, PhD

Dr. RubenfeldDr. Marian Rubenfeld is a board certified ophthalmologist and partner at Eye Care Associates. She specializes in neuro-ophthalmology and is a fellow in the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society.

Originally a native of The Bronx, New York, Dr. Rubenfeld is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota and has taught there for many years as well as at HCMC and the Minneapolis VA. She has done clinical research in the past, and has published many articles and in specialty textbooks over the years.

Daniel T. Durant, MD

Dr. DurantProviding over 34 years of clinical experience, Dr. Durant focuses his care in the diagnosis, management and treatment of complex eye diseases. He is a board certified, comprehensive ophthalmologist as well as a partner at Eye Care Associates.

Dr. Durant received his medical degree in ophthalmology from the University of Nebraska Medical School, where he also completed his residency. He provides optimal care with his practice, specializing in cataract evaluations, glaucoma, contact lenses, the retina, eyelids and medical eye exams. He is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

Dr. Durant sees patients with conditions including:

A native of Washington D.C., Dr. Durant graduated from the University of Maryland. He is a member of the academic honor society Alpha Kappa Delta. Prior to medical school, he worked toward a Ph.D. in physiology and has a published paper at the University of Nebraska Medical School. As a captain in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps, he was honored and presented with the prestigious US Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.

Shobana Murali, MD

Dr. MuraliDr. Shobana Murali is a board certified ophthalmologist and a partner at Eye Care Associates. She specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology including cataract, glaucoma, refractive surgery, medical eye examinations, retina, and pediatric ophthalmology. Dr. Murali is trained and certified in both LASIK and PRK to correct refractive errors.

Trond A. Stockenstrom, MD

Dr. StockenstromDr. Stockenstrom joined Eye Care Associates, P.A., of Minneapolis in 2002 and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and an active member of the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology. Trond A. Stockenstrom, M.D., a native of Uppsala, Sweden, graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota College of Liberal Arts in 1987 and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society. He spent the following year performing research in hematology in the Department of Medicine, Hematology Section, University of Minnesota School of Medicine. He was awarded a full scholarship for medical studies through the armed forces health professions scholarship program, United States Navy, and graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine in 1992.

DR. STOCKENSTROM’S MILITARY CAREER/HUMANITARIAN EXPEDITIONS

He was awarded a full scholarship for medical studies through the armed forces health professions scholarship program, United States Navy, and graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine in 1992. After completing his internship at San Diego Naval Hospital, he underwent training in Aerospace Medicine at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida. In 1994 he was designated a US Naval Flight Surgeon and assigned to Marine Corps F/A-18 Squadron 533, Beaufort, South Carolina. Subsequent deployments include service in support of ‘Operation Deny Flight,’ Bosnia-Herzegovina 1995. In 1999 he completed specialty training in ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. In 2010 he was promoted to Captain, United States Navy. In 2014 after a naval career spanning 25 years, Dr. Stockenstrom retired from the United States Navy.

Dr. Stockenstrom actively participates in humanitarian surgical eye expeditions to developing countries- voluntarily serving those in need of access to sight restoring surgery.

Dinesh K. Goyal, MD

Dr. GoyalDr. Dinesh Goyal is a cornea and refractive surgery specialist, a board certified ophthalmologist, and is a partner at Eye Care Associates. Dr. Goyal has completed formal subspecialty training in corneal transplant surgery, cataract surgery, LASIK and PRK surgery, and complex diseases of the anterior segment of the eye.

During his residency training, Dr. Goyal developed a specific interest in cornea and refractive surgery and was awarded the Robert D. Reinecke prize for his research in LASIK surgery. Dr. Goyal enjoys staying abreast of all the latest advances in the field of ophthalmology. Dr. Goyal received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in New York in 1998, through an advanced B.S./M.D. curriculum. He completed a one year internship in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University Hospitals in Chicago. He then became involved in Ophthalmology research at the University of Minnesota and later returned to New York to complete a three year residency in Ophthalmology at Albany Medical College. Dr. Goyal moved on to Boston to complete an additional year of subspecialty training in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at Boston University Medical Center.

Edwin Glur, OD

Dr. GlurEdwin Glur, O.D. was raised in South Central North Dakota and has been practicing for more than three decades and specializes in fitting difficult contact lenses.

Dr. Glur began practicing optometry as an Army Captain at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After two years, he returned to his home state of North Dakota and set up his own office where he practiced for the next 24 years as the only eye care provider in three counties. He then merged with the MeritCare Health System in Fargo, North Dakota, before joining Eye Care Associates. He has fit thousands of contact lens patients and co-managed hundreds of glaucoma and cataract patients.

David Warshawsky, OD
