Trond A. Stockenstrom, MD , a ®native of St. Paul, graduated from the University of Minnesota School Of Medicine in 1992. He subsequently completed a rigorous medical/surgical internship at San Diego Naval Hospital in California and served as General Medical Officer at San Diego Naval Hospital and Naval Station San Diego. In 1994 he completed training in Aerospace Medicine at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida, and was designated a US Naval Flight Surgeon. In 1995 Lieutenant Commander Stockenstrom deployed to Europe with Marine Corps F/A-18 Squadron VMFA (AW) 533 in conjunction with ‘Operation Deny Flight,’ Bosnia-Herzegovina. Upon completion of his operational tour of duty, he received orders to National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, where he successfully completed rigorous specialty training in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery.
Dr. Stockenstrom served as department head and ophthalmic surgeon at Great Lakes Naval Hospital, Great Lakes, Illinois. He participated in residency teaching in ophthalmology, holding a faculty appointment in the Department of Ophthalmology, Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago, Illinois. In the fall of 2001 he completed additional training in Oculoplastics at St. Eriks Eye Hospital in Stockholm, Sweden.
Dr. Stockenstrom practices comprehensive ophthalmology. He is active in performing oculoplastic surgery, as well as surgery for cataracts, glaucoma, strabismus, laser vision correction (LASIK/PRK), laser treatment of diabetic eye disease and macular/retinal disease, as well as cosmetic and functional Botox ® treatments. He has been performing corneal refractive surgery since 1999. He underwent extensive training on the state-of-the-art VISX Star scanning lasers. He offers both Laser Assisted In-situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) and Photo Refractive Keratectomy (PRK) for the correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.
Dr. Trond A. Stockenstrom is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
